Zelda, Kingdom Hearts and Mario models by Kevin

29-10-2014: Kevin built quite a few papercraft models before, but he’s extra proud of his new one: the “King of Red Lions”, from “The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker”!

It’s a very challenging model to build, but Kevin spent a lot of time on it, and he even made the special “sea base” and the customized “Chokipeta Link” that Josh Darrah made (link).

And as you can see, the end result looks great! ;o)

05-10-2014: Kevin already built quite a few papercraft models, and here are some new ones!

The first one is adult Link, from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: picture

But actually, he built two versions of Ocarina of Time’s adult Link, the other one is the one riding Epona: picture

The next one is from another Legend of Zelda game, namely Twilight Princess, and it’s Link in the Zora armor: picture!

The other two papercraft models are from the Kingdom Hearts series, and they are the main character Sora and his Keyblade and a character featured from the Final Fantasy series, Cloud Strife:

Building so many papercraft models shows that Kevin really likes papercraft, and with the experience he gained, he’s thinking about tackling more complex papercraft models too! ;o)

05-04-2014: Kevin sent me bunch of new pictures of the new papercraft models he built since last time! One of them is another Legend of Zelda model, Fierce Deity Link: picture

But this time he also made some Mario models: in this picture, you can see the Paper Mario 3D that I made, but Kevin also built Paperlegend’s Mario 64 (picture) and PaperJuke’s Luigi (picture)!

And because paper models don’t really care who made them of course, PaperJuke’s Luigi and my Paper Mario are getting along quite well: picture ! ;o)

31-01-2014: Kevin is a big time fan of the Legend of Zelda series, and since he liked Twilight Princess, he decided to build my papercraft Twilight Link, and he did a great job too: picture ! ;o)

Where my own paper Twilight Link has his Master Sword and Hylian Shield in his hands, Kevin made it so they are on his back, and it really looks very good: picture 2

Tomb Raider T-Rex trophy head by Katja

21-10-2014: Katja (a.k.a. merineiti) only discovered papercraft a few weeks ago, but she’s already excited to build all kinds of paper models herself! ;o)

In fact, she already build a few, and one of the first ones was actually my own papercraft T-Rex head that’s in Lara Croft’s secret trophy room in her mansion in Tomb Raider III!

And as Katja shows by the picture she sent me, it goes really well with 1/6 scale dolls made to look like Lara herself! ;o)

Papercraft based Batman kite by Guy Reynolds

19-10-2014: Guy Reynolds is crazy about kites, making and building his own designs for fun and on commission too with his company Ursus Volans Parachute Co.!

But the way I heard about him was when Craig Harby posted a picture on Facebook of a huge Batman kite built by Guy, based on the papercraft model I made in 2012! ;o)

As you might imagine though, making a 9 meters (!) tall flying kite out of a papercraft model of only 25 ½ cm, was not so easy…

It meant that Guy had to redraw the patterns so the parts could be made to fit together using the special kite fabric:

And after that, he still had to find a way to “bridle” it properly (attaching the lines to the kite) so it could be flown:

But in the end, it was all worth it, because as you can see in the top picture, Guy’s Batman won the Best Kite award as at the 23rd Portsmouth International Kite Festival (August 23rd – 25th 2014): link ! ;o)

Twilight Link by drawwithme15

02-02-2014: drawwithme15 built my papercraft “Twilight Link” as a present for her boyfriend on his birthday, which is very cool as a self-made gift of course! ;o)

drawwithme15 made a lot of paper models before already, usually in one continuous go, but Twilight Link is a bit more complex with more parts and just took more time than usual, so she took lots of breaks.

To make her papercraft Twilight Link gift look extra good, she touched it up in some places with paint, but not everywhere, because she wanted to keep the details on some of the parts too. ;o)

drawwithme15 also follows photography classes, and as you can see, she took Link outside to apply what she learned there: picture 2 | picture 3

I wonder where Link is thinking about going next…? ;o)

Final Fantasy Auron by Corey

18-02-2014: Corey sent me this picture of my papercraft Final Fantasy X Auron that he built! ;o)

Corey calls it an “attempt” at my Auron, but if that’s the case, I think it’s very good attempt, because he looks great! ;o)

Legend Lara, American McGee’s Alice and Underworld wetsuit Lara by BRSpidey

04-02-2014: He needed a little help from Mayushii Shina (from Steins;Gate) but Brspidey built my papercraft Lara Croft from Tomb Raider Legend: picture 1 | picture 2 ;o)

And now he made her star in his little “choose your own storyline”-story called “Lara Croft: In search of the secrets of papercraft” !

Lara realizes she is only made from paper, and goes on a quest to find her origins, when she suddenly encounters the papercraft T-Rex from Paper’s Juke…!

But what happens next? Does Lara stand and face the monster? Or does she run and live to fight another day? Or will the encounter have a surprise ending? You can choose on BRSpidey’s DeviantArt page: link ;o)

27-10-2013: It’s another American McGee’s Alice again, this time built by BRSpidey, your friendly neighbourhood papercrafter from Mexico: picture ! ;o)

Alice was only BRSpidey’s second papercraft model, and although he found the fingers quite a challenge, it inspired him to continue papercrafting and now he has built lots more models already, many of which he painted for extra realism! ;o)

Underworld wetsuit Lara is a good example of that: because BRSpidey wasn’t happy with the quality of his printer, he painted the whole model with acryllic, matte, metallic and fluorescent paint, and he also added some relief to the arms and harness!

The results look very smooth, as you can se for yourself in these two pictures:

American McGee’s Alice by Birdy

20-01-2014: American McGee’s version of “Alice” was much darker than the famous Disney version, and I think you’ll agree Birdy’s picture does a good job portraying that! ;o)

Birdy really likes experimenting with picture taking, and in fact he tried several different things taking pictures of paper Alice, here’s an example of one of the setups: picture

Just like I decided to make my papercraft Alice after playing the first game, Birdy decided to build it after playing the sequel “Alice: Madness Returns” so many years later!

Okay, maybe at first it may seem a little bit strange to make a paper model of a “psycho girl” that kills all kinds of scary monsters in a twisted Wonderland, but you can see that I’m not the only one! ;o)

One Piece “Going Merry” & Zelda “King of Red Lions” by thithou

12-12-2013: thithou made this papercraft “Going Merry” that you see in this nice little photo collage as a Christmas present for his cousin, and he did a very good job, so that will be a very nice surprise I think! ;o)

He found it a little bit difficult to work with all the small parts, but even so it only took him about 4 days to finish! ;o)

He even changed the horns on the figurehead to a brown colour, and instead of printing the shrouds coming from the mast on a transparant sheet, he decided to make them a little wider so he could make them from paper too.

Before the “Going Merry”, thithou already made several other paper models, including the “King of Red Lions” from the Legend of Zelda series:

And although he didn’t really have any trouble building it, after a while, the figurehead and the mast and sail proved to be a bit too heavy and they started to fall off… :o(

thithou was able to glue on the figurehead again using some extra strong glue this time, but for the mast, he made the difficult decision to carefully remove it completely and rebuild it by printing new parts again.

This way, he could put in some barbecue sticks on the inside for extra strength, and as you can see, it worked really well! ;o)

Final Fantasy Yuffie by Shaun

14-12-2013: Yuffie is the newest Final Fantasy character I made so far, and as you can see, Shaun liked her so much that he decided to build her too! ;o)

I think most parts aren’t too difficult, and Shaun found the parts layout and the instructions very helpful, and he did a very good job:

LEGO Pirate Captain Redbeard by Mariza

21-11-2013: It has many small parts and she touched it up with crayons, but Mariza did enjoy building my papercraft LEGO Pirate Captain Redbeard! ;o)

But it’s not surprising, because she really likes all kinds of papercraft art, and she even made a whole Facebook Page about it called “Artempapel”: link

Young princess Zelda +lots more by minidelirium

11-09-2011: The neat little papercraft princess Zelda you see above was put together by minidelirium from Sweden!

Although she doesn’t make papercraft templates herself, she loves working with her hands and as you can see, she’s very good at assembly! ;o)

In fact, minidelirium actually built a lot more papercraft models, than just paper Zelda, many more from the Legend of Zelda series, but also from other video games and series, ranging from small and simple ones to very big and complex papercraft models!

If you look very closely, you can even see American McGee’s Alice too among all the other models! (without the arms though, minidelirium hasn’t made those yet ;o)

01-11-2013: This Fierce Deity Link is only the first papercraft model that Marezus built, but she must have a natural talent for it, because she did a really great job! ;o)

And I really like the picture too: the stripes in the background looks just like special effects from Fierce Deity Link swinging his huge, double helix sword! ;o)

Marezus likes to draw, and she must be a real Zelda fan too, and in her DeviantArt gallery you can find some really nice drawings of Epona and Link and more: link ! ;o)

Fierce Deity Link by Cesar Rodriguez

10-06-2009: As you can see by the timestamp on Cesar’s picture, he built my papercraft Fierce Deity Link quite a while ago already, but he still looks very good!

Fierce Deity Link (sometimes called “Oni Link”) is the ultimate form of Link in the video game “Majora’s Mask”, and it is very difficult to collect all the masks you need to trade to become “Oni Link”…!

Luckily, building this papercraft version of him like Cesar did should take a lot less time! ;o)

Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II + Super Smash Bros. Melee Link by WickedPaper

09-10-2013: Despite my Super Smash Bros. Melee Link being the most challenging papercraft model I made so far I think, there are many people that did a very good job building him! ;o)

It really has *lots* of very small parts and pieces, but as you can see, WickedPaper did a great job too: he even made his own custom, more square display base for Melee Link to stand on, and I think it fits really well! ;o)

02-10-2013: WickedPaper showed me this great picture of my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II that he built on his Facebook profile: picture 1 !

He tells me he had fun building it, and you can really see that I think, because the end result looks very good! ;o)

Batman, Sora, Homer and Majora’s Mask by Daniel

03-10-2013: Daniel sent me some pictures of another one of my papercraft models that he built: Batman, from the Batman cartoon series! ;o)

Daniel says he only wanted to build the black version, because the version with the blue accents looks too much like the 1960’s Adam West-version of Batman, and he never watched that series. ;o)

It also allowed him to save some money on ink, by painting the black parts by hand: picture 2 | picture 3

You can see it looks very good, and if he wouldn’t have told me, I probably wouldn’t have known about it! ;o)

Daniel enjoyed building his papercraft Batman, only the hands were difficult, but he says those are “a pain in the ass in every model…!” ;o)

But nonetheless he had to build those too of course, and in the end he did a great job on them!

24-01-2013: Daniel got himself a new printer, so he can finally print and build his papercraft models in full colour now!

And that’s exactly what he did with my papercraft Kingdom Hearts 2 Sora:

He was a little worried about building the spiky hair, now that it’s all done, he says it was surprisingly easy to build and everything went together perfectly: picture 2

I think you can tell Daniel put in a lot of work to do the best job he could on his papercraft Sora, because everything from the hands (which are always a bit tricky because of the small fingers!) to Sora’s Kingdom Key keyblade looks really great! ;o)

18-06-2012: Daniel built another one of my models: Homer Simpson: picture

Because he could only print the templates in black-and-white, he had to paint it himself, and I have to say he did an amazing job: I never would have guessed! ;o)

Daniel started with the shoes and pants, then the shirt and arms and then the head. He was a bit worried the fingers would be difficult, but luckily he didn’t have any trouble making them.

He thinks the eyes on his paper Homer look a little bit weird, but maybe Homer has just had a little bit too much Duff beer…? ;o)

21-12-2011: 24 year old Daniel Navarro from Venezuela built Majora’s Mask: picture

It was only the second papercraft model he made, so he printed it on regular printer paper to use it as a kind of practice and to save the thicker cardstock paper he has for other paper models he wants to do (and it’s in grey colours because he ran into printer problems… ;o)

He’s pretty happy with the results though, and I agree with him: even without colours, he did a good job building it and I think he can safely try doing more complex models too! ;o)

Twilight Link by eaglechild

2013-09-05: From the looks of this picture, it seems like Twilight Link has finally found a path into the Kokiri Forest! (or maybe he cut an opening himself with his Master Sword? ;o)

He was built by “eaglechild”, a 46 year old mother of two from Switzerland, who are all huge fans of the Legend of Zelda video games: her 10 year old son handles the controller when they play the games, and she helps him solve the tougher puzzles. ;o)

But eaglechild is practicing playing the games herself too, and she says it’s quite challenging to start playing video games at her age: at first she was too afraid that Link would loose all of his life energy before she even got the chance to hit the enemy, but now she proudly says she can challenge them without fear! ;o)

She found the confidence she needed in reasoning that she can play the recorder too (they actually found my papercraft webpage by accident while looking for Zelda sheet music for the recorder ;o) so she would also be able to handle the Wii remote control to play the games, and she was right! ;o)

And in true Legend of Zelda-spirit, even though they had never done a papercraft project before, she and her 10 year old son rose to the challenge to build their own papercraft Twilight Link together too, after buying good 200 gsm paper and scalpel knives to cut out the parts.

Because it was only their first, beginner project and papercraft Twilight has quite a few small and tricky pieces, they decided to scale him up to 150% (and they are even planning one scaled up to 200%! ;o)

For the glue, they poured all of it from the tube into a small, lockable jar, so they could use thin paint brushes to apply it to the glueing tabs.

All in all it took eaglechild and her son just 3 days to build Twilight Link as their first papercraft model ever: they had some problems with the (very tricky!) fingers not being able to bend the right way to hold the Master Sword, and the handle of the Master Sword wouldn’t stick, but together they were able to find a solution for those problems! ;o)

So together they already learned a lot about papercraft from their first project, and they are very pleased with their achievement; the message they sent me was very enthustiastic, so I think this is one family that will continue to have a lot of fun with the Legend of Zelda series! ;o)

Adult Link by Sam

2013-07-01: Sam is only 13 and he had only been papercrafting for about 3 months when he decided to try out my papercraft Ocarina of Time adult Link!

Furthermore, Sam only has a black and white printer, so he had to colour all the parts himself with coloured pencils first before he could start building!

But honestly, if he wouldn’t have told me, I don’t think I would have noticed because he did a really good job! ;o)

Sam says the difficult parts for him were the hair, the hands and the sword, but he did a very good job on those too and the finished papercraft adult Link looks really great! ;o)

Zelda models by Javier

2013-07-01: Javier has been in Rome for a while, and of course he was busy doing other things there than papercraft. ;o)

But now that he’s back, he sent me a new picture of one of my papercraft Zelda models that he built: young Link from Majora’s Mask!

As you can see, Link first went to Kokiri Forest, no doubt to ask advice from the Great Deku Tree. ;o)

To go on a great quest, you need some pocket money though, but luckily in Hyrule money is easy to come by: you just have to cut the grass: picture ;o)

Great job building another papercraft Zelda model again by Javier, and I hope Link has all the rupees he needs now! (because there doesn’t seem any grass left to cut anymore…! ;o)

2013-06-16: Looks like Javier really got bitten by the papercraft bug: here’s another papercraft Zelda model he built already, Majora’s Mask: picture ;o)

Or… could it be that it was actually Majora’s Mask that told him to do it to begin with…?

I’m not sure, but fact is that Javier is having second thoughts about building it, because now the evil mask seems to be watching him while he sleeps: link…

15-06-2013: As we suspected, who else but Ganondorf (picture) would have come up with the idea to steal all the colours from Hyrule?

It looks like Link finally found his hideout, and once Ganondorf is done with his “you don’t stand a chance against me!”-speech, we’ll soon see if his adventure has made Link grow strong enough to defeat him once and for all (again)!

Another great build by Javier! ;o)

12-06-2013: Although Javier’s printer’s yellow ink cartridge was empty when he printed the parts to build my papercraft Ocarina of Time adult Link (I can only suspect Ganondorf is behind it…!) he didn’t let that bother him! ;o)

He built his papercraft Link anyway, and as you can see in the picture, he did a great job: picture

With his Hylian Shield and Master Sword, I’m sure Link will soon defeat Ganondorf and bring back all the colours to Hyrule (as you can see, he already brought back the colour “black“! ;o)

Let’s just hope Ganondorf’s evil colour-stealing plans don’t spread to other worlds, like that of Digimon or Pokémon, but as you can see in Javier’s DeviantArt gallery, so far the crafts he made from those series still have all their colours: link ;o)
