Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II repaints & update by blake7

12-02-2022: In the past, I always got lots of pictures from people that built one of my papercrafts, and I would always ask them if they would like me to show them in the “hall of fame” on my papercraft website.

Nowadays, almost everybody has a Twitter or Facebook or other social media account and they can just show the papercrafts they put together on there! :o)

So it’s been a while, but this week, I got an email from Blake7 again. As you can see below he remade my Battlestar Galactica Viper MkII into lots of different versions in the past already, but one thing he didn’t do yet: merge it with the insanely detailed version of papercraft creator Uhu02!

Blake7 used the cockpit, landing gear and cannons from Uhu02’s Colonial Viper to update my version. You can see he had to made some changes to the strengthening ribs to fit the cockpit:

31-07-2016: The “Red Baron” was a German fighter pilot in World War I, who was famous because he painted his airplane bright red instead of the usual camouflage pattern.

…and of course because he was a very good fighter pilot, who won almost all his aerial combats!

Although that’s not so impressive of course, when you think allof his enemies were flying in biplanes, and was apparantly piloting a futuristic Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II: picture ;o)

The original idea for the Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II‘s Red Baron paint scheme was by enc86, and blake7 and Revell Fan did a great job translating it to the papercraft templates, don’t you think?

25-06-2016: In “The Dukes of Hazzard”, there would always be a part where “them Duke boys” would escape sherriff rosco by jumping the General Lee over a ramp, high into the air!

But it looks like they took their stunt a little bit too far, and ended up in space… picture

16-05-2015: If you thought blake7 only made repaints, think again!

Together with Revell-Fan, he worked out how big he should make my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II for it to be in 1:24 scale – and then he did: picture

04-05-2015: During World War II, it was not always easy to see for troops on the ground whether that bomber airplane coming towards them was a friend or an enemy…

So to try and prevent a lot “friendly fire” accidents during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, Allied airplanes got three white and two black bands painted on their wings and fuselage.

Of course a space fighter like Battlestar Galactica’s Viper Mk.II doesn’t really need such visual identifiers, but they do look good, don’t they: picture ;o)

16-03-2015: The third finished Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II repaint from blake7, a US Navy VFA-103 “Jolly Rogers” squadron version, complete with skull and crossbones emblem: picture ;o)

11-11-2014: Some time ago, blake7 asked me if he could a repaint of my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II, and here it is: picture ! ;o)

It’s based on a drawing made by BJ-023 on DeviantArt (link) and best of all, blake7 even shared the parts he used so you can build this version yourself too! ;o)

Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk. II & Cylon Raider by paperdemon

07-12-2015: Bernd (paperdemon) from Germany runs a small computer repair shop, so you know he’s good with electronics. But as you can see from the picture, he’s also good with paper! ;o)

In 2010, a buddy of Bernd’s told him how he found a cool papercraft “Firefly” spaceship from the tv series “Serenity” that was trying to pt together, but that he run into some problems.

Being a fan of the “Serenity”/”Firefly” series too, Bernd tried out the papercraft model too, but ran into the same problems… He managed to fix the problem though, and even made a website about the papercraft Serenity: firefly-serenity.de

After that, Bernd was hooked on the new hobby, and among other papercraft sites around the web, he found mine! ;o)

He built my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II before, but using only 80 gsm paper, it looked like “like Starbuck had crashed it on some planet… ;)” (his words ;o)

So he decided to build it again, together with the Cylon Raider, and the picture shows how good the result was the second time!

And I think it’s safe to say that Bernd is quite a sci-fi fan, because after my Battlestar Galactica models, he also built the “Planet Express” ship, from the “Futuruma” cartoon, which he found more challenging than the previous ones… ;o)

I hope he can still find the time to repair computers, in between building papercrafts…! ;o)

Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II + Super Smash Bros. Melee Link by WickedPaper

09-10-2013: Despite my Super Smash Bros. Melee Link being the most challenging papercraft model I made so far I think, there are many people that did a very good job building him! ;o)

It really has *lots* of very small parts and pieces, but as you can see, WickedPaper did a great job too: he even made his own custom, more square display base for Melee Link to stand on, and I think it fits really well! ;o)

02-10-2013: WickedPaper showed me this great picture of my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark II that he built on his Facebook profile: picture 1 !

He tells me he had fun building it, and you can really see that I think, because the end result looks very good! ;o)

Star Trek runabout, Star Wars TIE-fighter and TIE-interceptor re-vamps and Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II and Cylon Raider by Loenf

18-04-2013: Did you know that Loenf likes science-fiction movies and series? Well, maybe all the papercraft models he likes to build should have been a clue! ;o)

This time Loenf built the Star Trek Deep Space Nine runabout, more specifically, the repainted version from Paul McCool!

My originally model was drawn by hand and coloured with aquarel, and it was huge! ;o) Although the repainted version is the same size, Loenf printed it at half that size to make a smaller, 260 mm version: picture 2 | picture 3

And with all his experience as a modeller, Loenf also made a very neat technological looking display stand that really suits the model: picture 4 | picture 5

So yeah, what more to say? It’s a great job by both Paul McCool and Loenf! ;o)

30-11-2012: Here’s a surprise for you! (or maybe not so much, if you have been following Loenf’s papercrafting threads on Papermodelers.com: thread 1 | thread 2 ;o)

Loenf had already re-vamped and built my papercraft Star Wars TIE-fighter a little while ago, and he had promised to tidy up the templates he used and share them with the rest of us, but he also made a TIE-interceptor version: picture 1 !

Re-using the modular command pod and wing pylons and making two new wings, the result is really good I think: picture 2 | picture 3 ! ;o)

The TIE-interceptor is an updated version of the TIE-fighter, with more fire power, greater speed and higher maneuverability thanks to the dagger-like wings that also give it its extra menacing look…

Loenf put a lot of work into re-vamping my original, papercraft hand drawn TIE-fighter model and he did a great job so I’m sure you’ll like it! ;o)

The biggest difference in Loenf’s re-vamped models is in the wings, but he also simplified the cockpit interior a bit, and instead of making a movable top hatch, he made it so that you can simply glue it down.

Loenf didn’t re-draw all the glueing tabs, so don’t forget to cut your own! (or create your own method to join the parts together ;o)

03-11-2012: If you already saw Loenf’s work on my papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mark 2 and Cylon Raider, you will not be surprised with the great work he did on my papercraft Star Wars TIE-fighter too: picture

Unlike my Battlestar Galactica models though, the parts for my papercraft Star Wars TIE-fighter were all drawn by hand and coloured using aquarel.

But because Loenf wanted it to have a computer-made look, he did a lot of work re-drawing and re-painting all the parts on the computer first!

He also modified the wings a bit, making them a little thinner, and reinforcing them with some corrugated cardboard to increase their stiffness.

Not surprisingly, he did a great job, as you can see for yourself: picture 2 | picture 3

Loenf’s has also uploaded some more pictures of his re-drawn TIE-fighter (and lots more great papercraft models he built!) to his Loenforama site: link

14-01-2011: It’s his first build of this year, he says, but I’m sure Loenf has built “a few” paper models before…! ;o)

His Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II build looks simply amazing! Here are some pictures: picture 1 | picture 2

It was done by Loenf, and not only did he a fantastic job building it, he also modified the cockpit so you can look inside!

He used transparant foil for the canopy, and built the cockpit interior himself completely from scratch!

18-02-2013: Another papercraft Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II for the hall of fame! ;o)

This one was built by Josip: he said he found it fairly difficult to build, but now thatit’s finished, it’s beautiful and he’s very proud of it!

And I think he’s right to be proud, because from the pictures he sent me, it looks like he did a great job building it! picture 2

Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II by Dan

02-08-2012: Dan just started papercrafting, building with a few simple, “blocky” models before moving on to my Tomb Raider T-Rex trophy.

After that, he decided to build my Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk.II, of which you can see the picture above! ;o)

He was using 60 lb paper for his papercraft Viper, and he was making such good progress, that he skipped making the reinforcing, internal framework out of heavier cardboard, but as you can see, it turned out very good! ;o)

Cylon Raider by That’s PS!

13-06-2012: Paul from That’s PS! Nerdcrafting and more loves to make well… all kinds of nerdy crafts. ;o)

When he wanted to make a Battlestar Galactica themed craft, he came across my papercraft Cylon Raider and decided to try out it.

Thinking all the parts were already made and he only had to cut them out and glue them together, it took him a lot longer than he expected…! (“13 hours…” ;o)

In fact, his first try was “not a success” at all… But he didn’t give up, and the second time around he used the things he learned from his first attempt to avoid any more big problems.

And as you can see, all his hard work paid off! His papercraft Cylon Raider looks great and I’m sure it will get a nice place amongst all of Paul’s other nerdy things! ;o)
