02-06-2013: The papercraft cool guy in the picture above is of course Auron, from Final Fantasy X!

He was built by Patricius Jason, who did a great job I must say! ;o)

And if you look closely, you can just make out a papercraft Blaziken Pokémon on Auron’s right too, from the PaperPokés website!

Keyblade Danbo by Sabi3293

25-04-2013: Look at this cute little papercraft scene built by Sabine from Germany: it’s the cute little cardboard robot “Danbo“, wanting to be a Keyblade wielding hero like Sora from Kingdom Hearts! ;o)

My own papercraft Sora that Danbo got the Keyblade from to play with can be found here, and Danbo himself is a character from the Japanese manga “Yotsuba&!”

The cute cardboard robot made his appearance in chapter 12 of the manga and quickly became very popular on the internet, and many people have made their own papercraft version of him!

Sabine says she can’t remember exactly where she got the moveable papercraft Danbo that she built, but she thinks it might be the one made by yuiiwae, who you can find on DeviantArt here: link

Young princess Zelda by DanteSagittariKnight

21-04-2013: This wonderful version of young princess Zelda was built by DanteSagittariKnight from Chile!

Even though the picture is a bit dark, you can see how DanteSagittariKnight chose not to make sharp folds of all the fold lines on the templates.

As a result, you get a papercraft princess Zelda that’s a bit more smoother looking, and I think it looks great! ;o)

Tomb Raider Legend Lara Croft by Lullaby Blue

19-04-2013: Lullaby Blue kept me up to date (picture 1 | picture 2) on his progress as he was building the papercraft Tomb Raider Legend Lara Croft, and here it is finished! ;o)

To build his paper Lara, he used 120 gsm and the result looks really great as you can see for yourself: picture 3 | picture 4 | picture 5

Just look at how perfectly Lullaby Blue made Lara’s head: picture

I think you’ll agree he really did a fantastic job, and he can be really proud of his papercraft Lara! ;o)

Going Merry family by KiwiK

12-04-2013: Looking at the picture above, it seems like KiwiK is working on building a whole fleet of papercraft One Piece boats and Strawhat Pirates crew! ;o)

“Going Merry” by Ioana

08-03-2013: You can tell Ioana really loves the “Going Merry”, because she took the time and effort to do such a great job to build this papercraft version!

In the end, it took her about 20 hours, but in her own words, it was “totally worth it”! ;o)

The “Going Merry” that Ioana built is the repainted version by chiohunpp and as you can see in the second picture, she even made the rigging for the mast from a real piece of string: picture 2

“Going Merry” by SayanMk

13-02-2012: This wonderful One Piece “Going Merry” boat was built by SayanMk!

If you look closely, you can see a little secret: because SayanMk didn’t have a colour printer, he printed the parts in black and white, and then coloured all the parts by hand with colour pencils!

I think it looks really great and SayanMk is really proud of it, because it was the first complicated paper model he built!

Since then, SayanMk has also built other the papercraft “Mini Merry” (link) and the “Thousand Sunny” (link).

He used the same technique of printing the parts in black and white and then colouring them with colour pencils as he did on the “Going Merry“.

LEGO Pirate Captain Redbeard by Jon Leslie

02-04-2011: When some people build a paper model, they really go all the way. And Jonathan Leslie is such a person. :o)

Earlier, Jonathan Leslie already did an absolutely amazing job building the “Going Merry”, and now he also made my LEGO pirate Captain Redbeard!

Where do I start? The reason why it’s so shiny for instance, is because he coated the model with “Mod Podge” as a clear finish: picture

He also reinforced all the hollow parts with tissues soaked in glue: when the glue dries, the tissues will become hard and form a sort of honeycomb structure inside the parts: picture

That way, hopefully it will have a better chance of surviving when being played with by young kids! ;o)

You already noticed the feather plume, of course: I didn’t include one in the paper model, but Jon made one out of pipe cleaners: picture

And last but not least: Jon went on Bricklink and got himself a real LEGO Redbeard minifig!

He made a (not-so-secret ;o) compartment for it in the back of the leg (he even had to made extra room for the feather): picture 1 | picture 2

So there you have it: an excellent customized version of Captain Redbeard (a.k.a. Kapitein Knoest)!

25-09-2006: Jonathan Leslie is what you call a “space enthustiac”. He has his own website, The Lower Hudson Valley Paper Model Giftshop, where you can download a lot of nice science fiction and space papercrafts (it’s also the d/l mirror for the Defiant redraw).

Jon has a lot of experience building all kinds of paper models, and this time he built the “Going Merry”!

The rigging is made by soaking thread with “cyanoacrylate glue”. This hardens the threads and bonds them together, as you can see in his “Going Merry” WIP pictures.

“Going Merry” by Anna Blume

02-10-2010: Anna, from Gent (Belgium) already built this “Going Merry” “ages ago” but only now sent me the pictures for the hall of fame.

The “Going Merry” is a small and challenging model, but Anna is a patient builder and with the support of Henk, she did a very good job I think!

Epona, wolf Link & “Going Merry” by Nizier

16-06-2010: Today, I received a whole bunch of pictures from 18 year old Nizier from France!

He made several papercraft models as gifts for friends, and the first one was wolf Link. It was difficult to make, but Nizier tells me he really liked it, so I’m glad to hear that! ;o)

I think Nizier’s second papercraft gift was to either a Zelda fan or to a horse lover (or both, of course ;o) because it is Link’s trusty horse Epona: picture 1| picture 2 | picture 3

And the third one was the “Going Merry”, which is also a pretty difficult model because it has many small parts: picture 1 | picture 2 | picture 3

It’s easy to see that Nizier spent a lot of time and care on these gifts, and his friends were very happy to recieve them!

“Going Merry” by Xu for Sun Joanna

25-03-2010: It took Xu three days during her spring break to build this “Going Merry” for her friend Sun Joanna (Wise). I wish I had friends like that! ;o)

She included an Usopp figurine from Megahouse in the picture to give you an indication of how small the ship really is; the figurine is only about one inch tall!

Needless to say I think, that Joanna enjoyed the gift very much! ;o)

One Piece’s “Going Merry” by Jeroen

16-03-2010: While Usopp wonders why the “Going Merry” is suddenly so small, we all know that’s because it’s a papercraft version built by Jeroen from the Netherlands!

He sends me a whole bunch of nice pictures from his build, and tells me he made it twice as big as my original version. And as you can also see, he made the rigging out of real ropes and added an extra line to the bow of the ship.

He did a really great job building it, and the extra effort he put into it makes his build look really great!

One Piece “Going Merry” by Joanna James

17-08-2008: Joanna James from Malaysia built this “Going Merry” for her boyfriend, who is a big fan of the One Piece anime.

It’s a very nice thing to do, because he doesn’t have the time to do it himself – and he’s just not very good at building stuff (her words, not mine! ;o)

It’s the third paper model she made for him as a gift, and this one took her three days. I’m sure he appreciates any gift from his girlfriend, but maybe this one even more!

07-06-2006: One Piece seems to be an immensely popular anime: the “Going Merry” is also the model that people send in for my hall of fame the most.

01-11-2006: You know, I seem to get a lot of e-mails lately from natural papercraft talents. I myself started off with some very simple paper models and slowly developed the skills to make more sophisticated models.

But take Flynn for instance; his first papercraft was a simple car, but for his second papercraft, he chose my “Going Merry”. Not the simplest model available for free on the web, but he did a very nice job as you can see in this second picture.

The transparant parts for the rigging are made from a simple food wrapper with some clear tape over it to prevent smudging from the felt tip lines as a cheap alternative for a printable transparant sheet. Smart thinking Jeffery!
