I built this one and i noticed that you missed the machinegun of the neotanks but nevertheless its incredible that you make these models by hand.
Thanks, it’s fun to do these 3D paper models by hand based on the 2D game sprites, although some times I do take some artistic liberty. ;o)
If you really miss the machine gun though, you could try to add it using the parts for the MD Tank for example, or just making your own from some scratch paper and magic markers. ;o)
Have fun!
Well, I did a machinegun really and put it on the front right “shoulder” but the color is a little bit different. Anyways it looks great and if I could take it a photo I would upload it.
Yeah, it’s difficult to match the exact same colour from a printed image…
But I’m glad to hear that you like the extra part you made! ;o) If you do manage to take a picture some time, I’d love to see it!
Have fun!
is testors hobby glue the same thing as tesa hobby glue
No, I don’t think it is. To be honest, I only know Testor glues from plastic model kits, but of course they may also have a glue for paper and cardstock. But Tesa and Testor are two very different companies.
will you make advance wars 4 units
what type of glue do you use
will you make halo models
so the black hole units are the esayest?
You mean “Days of Ruin”? To be honest, I consider it a completely different chapter in the “Wars series”.
The gameplay is very different than in the first three Advance Wars games, and most importantly for the paper model series, the graphic style is a lot different as well; they’re not the shiny happle little SD people that I liked so much anymore…
So I think I’ll stick with the first three games. ;o)
The glue I use is TESA hobbyglue; you can see a picture of the bottle in many of the instructions, like the ones for Buffy: https://ninjatoes.wordpress.com/2009/04/30/buffy-summers-the-vampire-slayer/
On my “to do”-list, there’s also a Halo section, but it’s just one of many section on The List… ;o) Billybob884 has made several Halo models already ( http://billybob884.deviantart.com/gallery/ ) as well as some other people.
The Black Hole units don’t have little soldiers, and those are usually the hardest to make I think. Allthough “easy” and “difficult” are just relative of course, the most important thing is to have fun building! ;o)
I dont think we get that glue in the good ol usa
You never know ;o)
In the Netherlands, where I live, you can really buy it just about anywhere, and I’ve found it to be a very good glue.
I know that they sell it in Germany too, as “Tesa Alleskleber” and I think in some countries it’s known as “Tesa All-Purpose glue” but whether or not it’s readily available in the USA as well…?
But to be honest, I don’t think you should worry too much about it. ;o) Plenty of glues that *are* readily available in the USA will do just fine. I heard that many American papercrafters use “Elmer’s bland glue”, which is a white PVA glue. But of course, any glue that you used in your childhood will still work just fine! ;o)
Im still a kid
I’m sorry, I meant in kindergarten… ;o)
I used gliter glue alot will that work
You mean “Glitter Glue” in those pen-shapes? Those make applying glue precisely nice and easy I guess! And they may even give your units a nice sparkle… ;o)
how did you even come up with this
what advance wars sets do you recomend a beginer to build first i have some experiance with plastic models
what type of paper do you recomend
How I came up with this is easy; from the game! ;o)
And the mechanism to move the legs simultaneously, I remembered seeing something similar somewhere once, so it was just a matter to recreate the parts needed in paper form.
My Advance Wars models are all not very difficult I guess, although the heads for the soldiers can be tricky to make. So maybe you’d like to make one without a soldier first?
As for paper, I always use 200 gsm paper, I think it’s about 110 lbs Index cardstock (nothing fancy/glossy, just regular paper, only a bit thicker). But if you don’t have it and can’t find it anywhere, or it’s just too expensive for your taste, don’t worry about it too much, and use what you do have and see if that works for you. ;o)
will the mech and infantry units come in sets of five and will they be normal size compared to the other units will you also make CO’s
I think I will make the Infantry and Mech units the same scale as the drivers of the vehicles.
Whether or not I will make all of them at once, or all five Infantry units for all five armies, or an Infantry and a Mech unit of one army, or just one at a time, I don’t know yet…
And if I make the CO’s, I think I will make them at a bigger scale; because they’re not generic soldiers, I’d like to give them different faces with distinctive features, and that’s just easier if the head is a bit bigger. ;o)
Please dont make andy in his advance wars 1 pose it looks like hes doing party boy
Yeah, I never really understood why they gave such a typical teenage boy the command of an army…
how long does it take to make an advance wars model?
whats the next unit under development? tell us please!!!:(
The next unit is a secret, sorry…!
The truth is, I just don’t know yet… ;o) I usually decide to make a new Advance Wars unit when I have some extra spare time, so I don’t plan them far ahead (because I don’t know when that will be ;o)
How long it takes to make an Advance Wars unit differs on the unit of course; the APC’s didn’t take long, I think about a week each, but especially the ones with moving parts like the Blue Moon Anti-Air and curved parts like the planes took a lot longer…
But the plan still is to make all of them eventually!
Now do you have a unit under development
Haha I still often play the game when I have some time, and then I come up with ways to make the units out of paper, and I write it down.
I still have to make *a lot* of units, but Link from Twilight Princess takes up a lot of my spare time right now, so I am not working on a new Advance Wars unit yet right now, sorry! ;o)
